Seniors tied for 1st Place in the Spring Charrette

Architecture_Landscape_Interiors_Spring-2016_CharetteTwo teams of Seniors tied for 1st Place in the A/L/I Spring 2016 Charrette Competition!

Darien Noguchi’s and Raymond Tran’s project THE PRESTIGE as well as Ghadeer Alburaiki’s, Paulina Benavides’, and Tim Jordan’s project ILLUSION won 1st Place.

Each semester, A/L/I students participate in a charrette, which is a design project completed within a limited amount of time and no prior knowledge of the requirements. Solutions must be presented “by hand,” with no use of computers.

On March 14, 2016, all current A/L/I students, in teams of two or three, spent five hours conceiving, negotiating, drawing, and building models in order to communicate their design solutions for “A Hollywood Magic Club” to be located in a storefront on Hollywood Boulevard. Students were asked to design a new magic club that would be open to the public, showcase the best talent, and rival any other club in Hollywood. Magicians would perform tricks and routines on a small stage in front of an audience of about seventy-five people.

A jury of A/L/I instructors Gregory Van Grunsven, Frank Clementi, Andy Fastman, Greg Kochanowski and Otis’ Associate Provost, Kim Russo, reviewed the (blind) entries and chose finalist teams. Finalists verbally presented their projects, after which the jury publicly deliberated and determined two 1st, one 2nd, and two 3rd Place winners.
