The Southern California Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), hosted its 2016 Student Design Charette at LPA, Inc., Irvine, on Saturday, November 5th, 2016.

Thirty students from Interior Design Programs throughout Southern California were selected to compete in this prestigious design challenge. Students were divided randomly into six teams and asked to focus on a “Flexible Retail Concept,” including a specialty market, a bistro restaurant, and a cooking classroom, to be located in the heart of historical Downtown Los Angeles in the Broadway Trade Building. Teams had four and one-half hours to collaborate and produce creative design solutions for the required program. Each team presented their design to judges and the other students. After serious deliberation and discussion by the judges, private interviews were held with three teams after which the 1st and 2nd place winners were announced.

Tanner’s first-place winning team will be recognized and presented their $10,000 award at the IIDA SoCal Calibre Design Awards on May 19, 2017 and will be representing the IIDA SoCal Chapter at the third annual IIDA Western Regional Student Charette, which will be held in Phoenix, AZ on April 7, 8 and 9, 2017.

Congratulations Tanner and Maegan on your outstanding performance in the SoCal IIDA Student Design Charette 2016!
