Mark Dutcher – Baldwin Hills – 08/27/2013

Mark Dutcher has been painting for 30 years.  His recent series is a reflection on life and death, as a memorial to his sister who recently passed away.  As Dutcher describes it, “the history of the making is in the painting, how I was feeling when I made it.”  The layers of color and fragments of words within his paintings make this complex feat a reality.  The subject of memory and memorial is expressed over and over again in Dutcher’s work, with songs and names and other phrases from the past appearing in the work in an often unrecognizable way.
