Nathan Danilowicz – West Adams – 12/2/2013

Nathan Danilowicz is a painter. He graduated from UCLA in 2007 with an MFA and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2002. He is working on a new series of abstract paintings that are derived from his daily drawing practice and his interest in the occult. His layered surfaces are a compelling combination of rigid geometry and organic overlays. There is always sense of something underneath wanting to bubble up to the surface or a substance on top trying to obliterate what is below. Recently he has been working with repeating patterns and printing the designs on stickers. He then applies the stickers to large sheets of paper and uses that as a painting ground—again a tension between extreme organization or the rational versus the immediate and amorphous.
