Sarah Awad’s large-scale abstract, figurative paintings are a treat for the eyes. Her studio walls were filled with images of nude figures, mostly women, in poses that projected strength, blended with splashes of colors that reminded me of a beautiful full bloomed garden. Awad says she is inspired by the early paintings of Matisse and Picasso and one could definitely feel their presence. She confided that working on large scale paintings can be very challenging because of the height issue, but says she is getting better at it. Sara received her BFA from Art Center College of Design and MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has had several group and solo shows nationally, as well as internationally, in recent years.
