I want to invite you to a fun event in Venice Beach this Thursday evening, 5th December that my students from Otis College of Art and Design are putting on in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics program and Mittel’s Art Supplies.
This is the 5th year anniversary of partnership between Surfrider and Otis which has seen tremendous creative activism in raising awareness about the huge amounts of single-use plastics that are polluting our oceans and beaches. Many of you will be aware of the great pacific garbage patch in the Pacific ocean that is filled with disposable plastics affecting the food chain from plankton to humans.
This year the students are focused on the plight of the seabird and how they are dying in their hundreds of thousands globally from ingesting plastics on the surface of the ocean. They have installed an art piece on the facade of Mittel’s Art Supplies store and are holding a Seabird Funeral event there where they intend to highlight the issue in a fun but informative way.
Please come and support your local art and surf community and help the fight against single-use plastic bottles, bags and packaging by attending this event. There will be music, food and lots of activities.
Bring your own mason jar to decorate and WEAR BLACK TO SAVE OUR SEABIRDS!
On behalf of Surfrider Foundation, Otis College of Art and Design and Mittel’s Art Supplies thank you for your support!
