Last week, designer Bob Mackie visited the senior fashion design class to assign them a direction on a collection of “swoon-worthy” evening looks inspired by underwater sea life and landscapes. Mackie, who is best known for dressing entertainment icons such as Cher, Joan Rivers and Tina Turner, explained that “cover-ups, reveals and headdresses are important to creating the look.”
While the direction issued was ocean-inspired, the mentor warned the students to avoid “mermaid” or traditional red-carpet looks that are too literal. Next, the students will present their designs and illustrations to Mackie during a sketch selection.
