Ben Jackel – Culver City – 06/14/2013

Ben Jackel works mainly with clay in what would seem to be a mold process, but surprisingly is done mostly by hand and lathe.  The sculptures Jackel creates are often tributes to family members passed, even though you would never think of that by just looking at them; including pieces like the fire hydrants that stood outside his grandparents Chicago home.  Jackel also creates pieces about warfare such as replicas of drones, battleships, tanks, brass knuckles and battle axes.  Interestingly enough, on the side, Jackel actually throws axes and bullwhips and even volunteers on the USS Iowa Naval Ship in San Pedro.
