Otis alumna May Sun works in sculpture, multi-media installation, photography and incorporates all these elements in her public artwork as well. Sun has won numerous awards and fellowships, including two NEA Visual Artist’s Fellowships and a Getty Fellowship for the Visual Arts. Her installation UnderGround is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and her multi-media installation L.A./River/China/Town premiered at the Santa Monica Museum of Art’s Art in 1988. Sun was born in Shanghai, and raised in Hong Kong and San Diego. Her work often explores the history of a specific place and the communities and cultures that have inhabited it.
